I have so many people ask me for 'diet tips' and in all honesty I've never been a fan of diets.
Carbohydrates have a bad reputation but the truth is your body needs carbohydrates in order to efficiently burn fat. Without carbs you will actually begin to cannibalise your own muscle mass, meaning your body fat and energy levels will drop.

Is it important to hurt during or after training?
Maybe.
But probably not.
If you're new to exercise, or at least new to a particular type of exercise, then you might feel a little discomfort in the days that follow, and that's pretty normal.
Once you've got yourself in to a regular training groove however, the discomfort will be less, and this is good.
